By His Excellency Sir FRANCIS HENRY MAY Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George Governor and Commander- in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies and Vice-Admiral of the

same:

Whereas by the tenth section of the Special Police Reserve Ordinance 1914 as enacted by the tenth section of the Hongkong Police Reserve Ordinance 1917 it is pro- vided that the Governor may by proclamation whenever it appears to him advisable to do so call the Reserve out for service and that thereupon every person who is a member of the Reserve at the commencement of such proclamation and every person who becomes a member of the Reserve after the commencement of such proclamation and before the issue of a proclamation cancelling such calling out shall have the same powers for the preservation of the peace the prevention of offences the apprehension of offenders and for all other purposes and the same privileges protection and immunities as the members of the regular police force of corresponding rank and standing until the Governor shall by proclamation cancel such calling out provided that the said section shall not confer any right to any pay or compensation or reward or any exemption from liability to jury

service:

And whereas it appears to me advisable to call the Reserve out for service:

Now Therefore I Sir FRANCIS HENRY MAY Knight Commander of the Most Distin- guished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies and Vice-Admiral of the same do hereby by this proclamation call the Hongkong Police Reserve out for service.

Given under my hand and the Public Seal of the Colony at Victoria Hongkong this 14th day of September 1917.

Whereas it is expedient that additional places should be appointed where a Magis- trate may sit to hear and try complaints and informations :

Now Therefore I Sir FRANCIS HENRY MAY Knight Commander of the Most Distin- guished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies and Vice-Admiral of the same do hereby appoint the several places mentioned in the Schedule hereto as places where a Magistrate may sit to hear and try any complaints or informations.
