NOTICE TO MARINERS, No. 470.

Silangan Pass, East Coast of Luzon.

Ax automatic acetylene gas buoy, showing one white flash every six seconds, was established November 25th, 1916, in Silangan Pass, east coast of Luzon, in 54 fathoms of water, coral bottom. The light is placed on a skeleton structure surmounting the buoy and is 10 feet above sea level. The buoy and structure are painted red.

All bearings are true.

Vessels from western entrance should steer N. 57° E., true, until gas buoy is abeam, about 50 yards on the starboard hand, then change course to N. 70° E., true. Above courses to be reversed when entering from eastward.

The following buoys placed by the Manila Railroad Company, November 14, 1914, (Notice to Mariners No. 395), having been rendered unnecessary by the establishment of a gas buoy in Silangan Pass, were discontinued November 25, 1916 :-

Silangan Pass.

One conical shaped second class red buoy in the southern entrance to Silangan Pass, in 6 fathoms of water, on the south side of 24 fathom patch.

One conical shaped second class black buoy in 6 fathoms of water, on western edge of reef in the southern entrance to Silangan Pass.

Hondagua Harbor.

One conical shaped second class black buoy in 6 fathoms of water, south-east of Niogan Island.

Polillo Harbor, East Coast of Luzon.

A set of range marks was established December 1st, 1916, to mark the clear passage into Polillo Harbor. The front range is located on the beach and consists of a triangular shape painted white with a black vertical stripe through center. The rear range is situated on the church tower and consists of an inverted triangle painted white with a black vertical stripe through center.

A fixed red light, visible 9 miles, is displayed from the center of each range.

When entering Polillo Harbor get ranges in line S. 35° E., true, and steer for them until Polillo Point is abeam, then steer S. 26° E., true, until front range is abeam. Anchor in 9 fathoms westward of the church.
