A black Spar Buoy, surmounted by a spherical day-mark, to be known as the Bar Buoy, has been moored in 8 feet of water at low water of spring tides on the northern side of the channel across the Bar. From the Buoy, Chimatao Lighthouse bears N. 52° W., magnetic, distant 4.28

miles.

NOTICE TO MARINERS, No. 604.

Panama Canal Temporarily Closed.

NOTICE.is hereby given that the American Legation has notified the Chinese Govern- ment that telegraphic information has been received to the effect that the continued movements of sliding material in the Panama Canal have made it impossible to predict the approximate date of its re-opening. All shipping intending to sail by the Panama route is therefore notified that it is not advisable to do so until further notice, which will be given as soon as the material is removed sufficiently to insure stable conditions.

Taku Bar-Winter Arrangements for Aids to Navigation.

NOTICE is hereby given that on or about the 1st December, 1915, the following winter arrangements will be made for Aids to Navigation marking the Taku Bar and its approaches:

The advertised floating Aids to Navigation will, as usual, be removed, their positions being marked by black Spar Buoys.

The lighting of the River Mouth Leading Marks will be effected.

The power of the Taku Bar Outer Leading Lights will be increased.

The hulk Tienching marking the wreck Guthrie will be removed, its position being marked by a black Spar Buoy. A Pole Beacon surmounted by a spherical day-mark, and painted black, has been erected on the wreck. This Beacon will be unlighted.

NOTE:--Information concerning ice-breaking will be given in a future Notice.
