Approaches to Canton.

Sampanchow Light Established,

NOTICE is hereby given that the Light on Sampanchow was exhibited for the first time at sunset on the 30th March 1915.

The illuminating apparatus is Dioptric, of the First Order, showing an occulting white light every 4 seconds, thus:-

0'4 second, 3.6 seconds.

The Light, which is situated on the summit of the south-eastern islet of Sampanchow, is elevated 95 feet above high water, and should be visible in clear weather at a distance of 15 nautical miles.

The tower is a brick structure, 44 feet high, with a total height from base to lantern vane of 58 feet.

The tower is painted white.

In thick or foggy weather an automatic acetylene gun will be operated, giving one report every 30 seconds,
