It is officially announced that the Panama Canal was to be open for commerce, to vessels A further announcement drawing not more than 30 feet of water, on the 15th August last.

will be made when a depth of more than 30 feet shall have been secured in the Canal.

2. The official opening of the Canal will take place in March, 1915.

Wedge Island and Middle Bank Lights.

REFERRING to Notices to Mariners No. 8 of 1911 and No. 1 of 1912, Masters of Vessels and others are hereby informed that, on or about the night of the 12th and 20th October, respectively, the lights above mentioned will be improved, and will show more brightly, and the range of visibility will be slightly increased.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389, 2389a, 2389b, 1061, 784, and 403.

INVESTIGATOR STRAIT--ALTHORPE ISLAND.

MASTERS of Vessels and others are hereby informed that, on and after the night of the 30th October, 1914, the First Order Revolving Light on Althorpe Island will show a Green light over a sector of 24° (twenty-four degrees) between the bearings of 165° (S. 19° E. magnetic) and 189° (S. 5° W. magnetic), Approximate position-Latitude 35° 22′ S.; Longitude 136° 51' E.

This affects Admiralty Charts No. 2389 and 2389A.

NOTE. For about a week preceding the above date the characteristic of the light over the area

mentioned may be slightly affected.

NOTICE is hereby given that the luminous power of the light of Kurasaki Lighthouse on S. end of Oshima, outside Tono-ura Harbour, Province of Hyuga, has been increased to 180,000 candles since the 7th of November, 1914.
