then hoist a black ball at the port yard arm, and from the station ship steer a course to pass a point 328 degrees (true) distant one mile from La Monja Light, thence steer a course 059 degrees (true) for 1.8 miles to a Black and White vertical Striped Buoy passing this buoy on the port hand. Proceed on the same course for 1.4 miles to the Mine-field Channel to the South of Alasasin Poiut the Western end of which is marked by two Black Nun Buoys, thence through the Mine- field Channel the axis of which is 083 degrees (true). The Eastern end of the Mine-field Channel is marked by two Black Nun Buoys.

After passing through this Channel proceed by the most direct

route to your destination.

OUTGOING VESSELS.

Outgoing vessels will obtain permission to depart from the United States Naval Port Captain of Manila and on departure will hoist a black ball at the port yard arm. On departure steer a direct course for a point bearing 142 degrees (true) distant 1.7 miles from Real Point where a station ship flying the Inter- national Code Flag S will be met. On sighting this station ship the International Signal Letters should be hoisted. Lay to, to the Eastward of this point until permission to proceed is given, thence proceed from the point bearing 142 degrees (true) distant 1.7 miles from Real Point steer a course 263 degrees (true) to pass through the Mine-field Channel to the south of Alasasin Point. The axis of this Channel is 263 degrees (true) and both Eastern and Western entrances are marked by Black Nun Buoys. After passing through the Mine-field Channel steer a course 239 degrees (true) for 1.4 miles to pass a Black and White Vertical Striped Buoy on the port hand, thence continue on the same course for 1.8 miles. Passage through a point bearing 328 degrees (true) distant one mile from La Monja Light, thence steer a course 238 degrees (true) for 3 miles, thence proceed to destination keeping to seaward of Luzon and Taytayen Points at a distance of not less than 3 miles.

Remarks. (1) Vessels entering Manila Bay from seaward will have the right of

way through the Mine-field Channel.

(2) Manila Bay will not normally be entered during a typhoon.

(3) The Control Vessel at the Outer Station will maintain station as

long as weather conditions permit.

(4) Should distress or an emergency require a vessel to seek refuge in Manila Bay when no Control Vessel is on station the above instructions should be implicitly followed.

Caution.-Due however to the difficulty of picking up the Channel Buoys in heavy. weather, and the fact that the buoys may have carried away, vessels will expose themselves to serious danger in attempting to enter and should not do so except as a last resort.

Vessels will not depart from Manila during typhoon weather. Com- mencing at daylight August, 4th 1941, towing service through the Mine-field Channels for sailing vessels or other vessels without mechanical power must be furnished by the Owners or Agents of such vessels desiring to enter or depart from Manila Bay.
