COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEpartment.
In exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Emergency Powers (Colonial Defence) Order in Council, 1939, and the Emergency Powers (Colonial Defence) (Amendment) Order in Council, 1940, and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor makes the follow- ing regulations amending the Defence Regulations, 1940, published as Government Notification 709 in the Gazette Extraordinary of 25th June, 1940, as subsequently amended. The said amendments shall be inserted in and shall form part of the said Defence Regulations.
Amendments.
1. Regulation 63 of the Defence Regulations, 1940, is amended by renumbering the said regulation as paragraph (1) thereof and adding the following paragraphs—
(2) With a view to preventing the spread or facilitating the extinction of fire caused by incendiary bombs, the Governor may by order make provision for requiring rooms or other spaces on premises to which the order applies to be cleared and kept clear of articles which are not affixed to the premises.
(3) Any such order may apply either to the whole of this Colony or to any part thereof specified in the order, and either to all premises or to premises of such classes or descrip- tions as may be so specified, subject to any exemptions for which the order may provide.
(4) If the provisions of any order made under this regulation are not complied with as respects any premises, the occupier of the premises shall be guilty of an offence against this regulation.
(5) Any person authorized by or under any such order, may at any time enter and inspect any premises to which the order applies for the purpose of seeing whether the order has been complied with; and if the person so authorized finds that the order has not been complied with he may, without. prejudice to any proceedings which may be taken for an offence against this regulation, take such steps and use such force as may appear to him to be reasonably necessary for the purpose of securing compliance with the order.
2. The following regulations are added—
