17. GALLEYS.-(a) Cooking ranges and rice boilers, etc., sufficient for the needs of the unberthed passengers are to be provided within properly constructed houses placed in convenient positions on a weather deck.

(b) They are to be in addition to and separate from the crew's galley.

(c) Chimneys are to be fitted to cooking ranges for the escape of smoke to the open air.

18. DRINKING WATER STATIONS.-Means for the supply of drinking water to unberthed passengers are to be provided in suitable positions on the weather deck. The number of stations is to be in the proportion of not less than one for every 250 passengers or part thereof.

19. HOSPITALS, ETC.-(1)-(a) Properly constructed hospitals, separate from other living quarters, are to be pro- vided on or above the uppermost passenger deck, if possible on a weather deck. The whole of the hospital accommodation should be in one part of the ship so that if circumstances de- mand the entire space may be used for isolation purposes.

Separate accommodation is to be provided for males and females.

(b) The total number of beds required in the hospitals is to be at least in accordance with the following scale:

When the number of unberthed passengers which the ship is certified to carry,

(i) Does not exceed 400, there shall be 4 beds.

(ii) Exceeds 400, but does not exceed 600, there shall be one bed for every 100 or portion of 100 such passengers.

(iii) Exceeds 600, there shall be one extra bed for every 200 or portion of 200 passengers above 600, in addition to the 6 beds required for the first 600 such passengers.

(c) The aggregate deck area of the hospital space, exclu- sive of the waterclosets and the dispensary, is to be not less than 24 superficial feet for each bed required in accordance with sub-paragraph (b).

(2)(a) The space provided for hospitals shall be pro- perly divided and arranged as follows:-

(i) Where the number of beds required is 4, the space shall be fitted as two hospitals, with 2 beds in each.

(ii) Where the number of beds required is neither less than 5 nor greater than 10, the space shall be fitted as 3 hospitals of which one shall be an isolation hospital.

(iii) Where the number of beds required exceeds 10, the space shall be fitted as 4 hospitals of which 2 shall be isola- tion hospitals.

(b) Where the total number of beds does not exceed 9, the isolation hospital shall contain one bed only, and where the total number of beds exceeds 9, each isolation hospital shall contain not more than 2 beds.

(3)-(a) At least one watercloset and washbasin, situated immediately adjacent to, and having direct access from each hospital or set of hospitals is to be provided.

(b) Separate waterclosets and washbasins are to be fitted for each isolation hospital.
