24. LIFE-BUOYS: The minimum number of approved life-buoys with which ships of Group I. Class 5 are to be provided is as follows:-

25. LIFE JACKETS:-One approved life-jacket shall be carried for each person on board.

GROUP I. CLASS 6.

26. The requirements as to life saving appliances specified under the heading "Group I. Class 6" shall be complied with by ships engaged in the carriage of unberthed passengers on short international voyages in the area bounded by the following lines:-

From a point on the west side of the Malay Peninsula in latitude 10° North along the coast of Asia to a point in Cochin China in latitude 11° North;

thence to latitude 8° North, longitude 110° East

the east side of Cape York at latitude 11° South; from the west side of Cape York at latitude 11° South to Cape Wessel and Wessel Island;

27. DAVITS-A ship of this class shall be provided with sets of davits in accordance with its length as specified in Column (A) of Table No. 7.

When, in the opinion of the Government Marine Surveyor, it is neither practicable nor reasonable to place on a ship the number of sets of davits required by Column (A) of Table No. 7, the Government Marine Surveyor may authorise, under exceptional conditions, a smaller number of sets of davits, provided always that this number shall never be less than the minimum fixed by Column (B) of the Table, and that the total capacity of the boats on the ship shall be at least up to the minimum capacity required by Column (E).
