New Territories Development

To achieve objective of providing homes and employment for ever growing population, HKG committed to building six new towns (Fanling, Sha Tin, Tai Po, Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long) and a number of rural community centres. By end of 1980s new towns planned to have combined population of 2.5 M people. To provide adequate local job opportunities necessary to under- take large scale industrial development in New Territories. However, this programme is currently lagging behind construction and housing. Development of 65 hectare Tai Po industrial estate for high technology industries well advanced.
