HONG KONG: CTV STATISTICS

here are no production data available for Hong Kong. But the Hong Kong Government office in London consider that much production must be for export. 1981 exports were 69,000 as against 16,000 in 1980. The bulk of exports in 1981 were sent to:-

Italy

UK

18,000 7,800

20,000

China

12,900

Singapore

Australia

2,900 2,800

Assuming that the Hong Kong manufacturers in 1981 abided by the terms of their licences and exported up to the 50 per cent limit domestic production might have been of the order of 120,000.

We now know of 2 Hong Kong manufacturers who say that for 1982 they say they want to ship 100,000 and 300,000 sets to the UK respectively. Some of this may be pie in the sky but one might work on a possible figure of 150,000

200,000. According to Hong Kong trade statistics they only shipped 4,000 in IQ 1982 but the Binatone order will certainly add 51,000 to that when it is executed.

The UK market for small screen colour TV's is expected to be about 800,000 sets in 1982 out of a possible total consumer off-take of 2.3 million units.
