1. We spoke about Mr Tilley's request for any available information connected with the above PQ to be given to him this afternoon.

I have some of the figures for Civil Servants in the Dependent Territories. These are as follows:

I attach a breakdown of 2 of the territories, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands.

3. I should point out that some of the figures in paragraph 2 above may well include BSUKCS, i.e. officers recruited in the UK and paid or having their salaries topped-up from aid money. It may not in the final analysis be possible to extract these from the total figure.

The total figure will not include members of HM Diplomatic Service, HM Forces, civilian members of MOD or other UK based organisations, e.g. the PSA.

5. You were kind enough to say that you would ask Mr Tilley if he could be more specific about 'categories of employment'.

I should be most grateful to have an answer this afternoon so that I may inform departments involved.
