Mrs Sutherland,

Deputy Chief Clerk

HONG KONG: BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

1. Since signing off my minute to you earlier this morning, I have received the attached self-explanatory letter from Mr Day. As you will see, discussions on the British Chamber of Commerce · are moving ahead; the BOTB may be prepared to put up some money; and Mr Davies remains a plausible candidate (although there are others)

2. Mr Day suggests that we send him a costing of the package to be offered to a DS secondee. It seems to me that the construction of the package will be essentially a matter for the Board of the Chamber. But it might be helpful if we could supply to Mr Day some figures demonstrating what level of total emoluments would be comparable to the terms for a DS officer (say at SGSP5) serving in Hong Kong.
