Abortive Fees Mr Whittle stated that he did not fully accept Farrell's case for abortive fees. Mr Holdaway also agreed with this view and will inform Farrell.

Escalator sizes It was agreed that the escalator widths should be 800mm for the Consulate-General and 1000mm for the British Council who had more traffic.

Structural design parameters

Mr Whittle said that he had passed the Arup report on these to OED's engineers and would pass on their comments.

(e) Design queries Mr Holdaway raised various

issues covering need (or otherwise) for a raised floor in main computer room, the extent of clean power requirements e.g. in main computer room and secure zone areas only or in all offices with computer equipment (VDUS).

Further advice is necessary from various Sections and FCO Depts and we therefore agreed to obtain this and forward the comments to Swire as soon as possible.

Contract Conditions Mr Whittle agreed that, for the demolition contract, SWIRE should base these on their own documentation.

Signing of Contracts Mr Whittle will check with Contracts Branch if the Management Officer BTC could sign these which would save time on communications etc. Subject to authorisation by OED the Management Officer stated, during our visit, that he was content to do so.
