Dear

Mr Harris,

You will by now have seen John MacGregor's letter of 22 January to me which sets out his thoughts on ways in which the British Government might best promote our joint cause on the Saniman extradition case. Do you agree with John MacGregor's recommendation? That is, that we should hold fire at this end until the appointment of a new government in March and should thereafter move quickly, preferably by means of a letter from our Attorney General to the new French Minister of Justice, to let the Minister know about British interest in the legal proceedings now going forward.

If you are happy to proceed on this basis, may I ask you to let me have a draft along the lines John sketched out in his paragraph 8?

I am planning to visit Hong Kong in March, probably arriving during the third week and leaving at the end of the fourth week (ending 28 March). I hope that we will have a chance to meet during while I am over.

Yours ever,

Deborah Bunnes tus
