Rules of Evidence

The rules of evidence applied in criminal trials in

Hong Kong are governed by the Evidence Ordinance

and/or the principles developed by common law.

These rules are as strictly applied by the courts

in Hong Kong as they are in all other civilised

jurisdictions.

6. Representation by Counsel

In this case the prosecution and the defence,

certainly of Osman and Tan are in the hands of

distinguished and experienced Queen's Counsel from

London. To suggest that they or any of them would

permit the trial to be conducted improperly or

unfairly is a nonsense.

The Rights of an Accused in the event of Conviction

In the event of Saniman being returned to Hong Kong

and convicted after trial, it should be noted that

the maximum sentence in respect of any single

charge which he is likely to face is seven years
