and the Bureau of Exit Entry
Administration, Ministry of Public Security held a meeting to discuss the issue of
increasing the quoca of mainland residents geing
Hong Kong for settlement
(hereinafter abbreviated to "one-way quota"). Both sides have arrived at the
following views on relevant matters :

The Chinese side notified the Hong Kong side the situation of increasing
one-way quota of people going to Hong Kong, namely: with effect from the 1
January 1993, there has been an increase of 15 permits on the daily one-way quota of
75 for use by people who are husband and wife living apart from each other in Hong
Kong and in the mainland for over ten years to enable them to go to Hong Kong foz
Later it was again decided that with effect from 1 June 1993, a further
increase of 15 one-way quota daily is to be used to resolve the problem of children
inder 21 years Of age with right of abode in the future Hong Kong Special
idministration Region going to Hong Kong, as stipulated by Article 24 of the Basic Law
the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. However, up to now, the quota in this
.ategory is still unused. The work of verifying the status of the children in
ૐ being carried out. The Chinese side pointed out that in increasing the
one-way quota, the decision was made after full consideration of Hong Kong
ociety's ability to bear the influx in aspects of housing, employment, education,
opulation and social welfare and taking into account the views of the Hong Kong
overnment and the various parties concerned.
