An Act to provide for the acquisition of British citizenship by AD. 1993.
certain of the British nationals in Hong Kong.

EIT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Fariament assembled, and by the authority on tive same, as follone:
1-(1) A person shall become a British citizen at commencement if immediately before commencement he is a British Dependent Territories citizen-
(a) by virtue only of a connection with Hong Kong, and
(b) who but for being such a citizen (or such a citizen and a British
National (Overseas)) would be stateless.
(2) A person shall become a British citizen after commencement if before 1st July 1997 he becomes such a British Dependent Territories citizen as is mentioned in subsection (1).
(3) It is hereby declared for the avoidance of doubt that a person is a 15 British Dependent Territories citizen for the purposes of this section whether
or not be also is or becomes a British National (Overseas).

(4) The Schedule to this Act shall have effect for the purpose of identifying those who are British Dependent Territories citizens "by virtue only of a connection with Hong Kong" within the meaning of this section.

Acquisition of British citizenship.
British citizens "otherwise than by decent"
2.-(1) A person who becomes a British in under section I shall be a British citizen "thevice than by descent" unless immediately before becoming a British citizen under this Act he was a British. Dependent Territories citizen "by descent" only under section 25 of the British 1981 c. 61. Nationality Act 1981 (the “principal Act”).
(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 2(1) of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990, any person registered as a British citizen by virtue of section 1(4) of and Schedule 2 to that Act (spouses and minor children) shall be deemed from the time of his registration to be of always to
