Wong, an Urban Councillor and Mr Kwang Fu-sam, a District Board

member. The same delegation visited Peking in the first week of

May, where they had meetings with Director Lu Ping and Deputy Director, Chen Zuo'er, of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office. The contents of these discussions were reported in the Hong Kong press (see separate briefs for specific points that

may arise). We have had a readout of this visit from Mr Paul of UKREP JLG in Hong Kong. Mr Paul comments that Mr Fung seems depressingly ready to swallow at face value anything said to him

by the Chinese and to remain obstinately attached to principles

only on issues which bring him into conflict with the Hong Kong Government (eg on airport funding).

4. During their visit to London (18-21 May) the delegation will

also be meeting Sir David Steel, Messers Jack Cunningham and Allan Rogers, Mr Tim Renton and, possibly, Dr Jeremy Bray. are giving a press conference at the Foreign Press Association immediately after their meeting with the Secretary of State.
