NEPALESE WORKERS IN HONG KONG

1.

On 10 June, Ram Krishna Tamkrakar, State Minister for Industry and Labour of Nepal had a bilateral meeting with Ms Ann Widdecombe, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Employment, in the margins of the International Labour Conference in Geneva.

2. The main purpose of the meeting was to raise the problem of Nepalese workers being refused work permits for Hong Kong. He did not expand on the problem but just asked the Minister to look into it. The Minister agreed to do so.

3.

I would be grateful if you would let UND and Dept of Employment have any background information you have on why Nepalese workers have been refused work permits for Hong Kong.
