6. Given the imminence of Chirac's departure, I undertook to get back to his cabinet as soon as possible when the Embassy reopens in the New Year on 4 January. I would therefore be grateful for the earliest possible response. Chirac's cabinet did mention that contact was also being made through the French Consul General in Hong Kong. There may therefore be some duplication but I think that contact through this Embassy is advisable.
