Mr Vymetal would be grateful for a more detailed programme, once available, and requested that this should show the precedence of those present on the Hong Kong side at any meeting. The Czech side is most grateful for the arrangements proposed in your telno 905. On detail the Czechs consider it would be appropriate for Mr Povejsil (rather than the Foreign Minster) to call on the Director of Protocol to discuss the appointment of a Czech Consulate General. They welcome the arrangements you suggest for Mrs Zielenecova and they enquired whether there would be any charge for the visits to a new town and helicopter tour of Hong Kong (I said there would not be). On that basis they would like this to go ahead.

Mr Vymetal was grateful for the offer of a space at the airport for a press conference, and would like to take this up. Apparently the Hong Kong Economy and Trade office (sic) in Brussels told the Czechs there that they might be able to assist in publicising and setting up any press conference on departure. Mr Vymetal is pursuing. Incidentally Mr Vymetal also mentioned that the same office had offered to help with hotel bookings - I stressed that he should check on whether this was indeed the case before I passed on to you the list of businessmen needing accommodation. He did so and claimed that no further action had been taken by the Brussels connection - but you might want to check at your end that your bookings are not being duplicated elsewhere within the Hong Kong Government machine.

5. Mr Vymetal floated the idea that the Foreign Minister might usefully attend some part of the meetings between businessmen in Hong Kong partners or perhaps be present at a working lunch. He asked me to canvass these tentative proposals with you.
