MR GOODLAD'S VISIT TO HONG KONG: 11-12 OCTOBER 1993
BRIEF NUMBER 11
MEETING WITH MR HUGH DAVIES (UKREP JLG)
Points to make
Thank you for your three months' hard work as Senior British
Trade Commissioner.
What is your judgement of the mood in the business community?
JLG XXVII was extremely disappointing:
what is the prospect
for co-operation in the JLG if the talks fail?
Defence Lands the only subject on which we seem close to an
outcome. How do you think it will play in Hong Kong, while the
rest of the JLG is deadlocked?
-
How soon will we have to start taking unilateral action, for
instance on localisation of laws and would this affect
co-operation in other areas?
Are you worried about the impact of China's Preliminary
Work Committee on the work of the JLG? Anything we can
or should do about it
How do you see your role in relation to the new
Consulate-General?
Hope you will take over from Tony Galsworthy as an informal adviser to the Governor on the talks and other Hong Kong/China
issues.
