Environmental Issues

Following the very useful discussion we had at James

Smith-Laittan's lunch on 1 June, I discussed environmental

opportunities in the Pearl River Delta with Baroness Chalker.

The ODA's Technical Cooperation programme for China is focussed on environment and better government projects. They already fund a number of important environmental projects in

China. The ODA also envisage that future ATP to China should

focus on the environment and transport.

There are many potential calls on ODA funds for ATP and TC aid to China and a need to prioritise but ODA will look

seriously at any sensible environmental projects including

ones in the Pearl River Delta.
