Mr Chau How-chen, the Tsuen Wan

DB Chairman, has suggested building a railway along the coast linking up Tuen Mun to

the urban areas. His suggestion has been examined in the Railway Development Study. Secretary for Transport has

advised that Mr Chau's proposal is not favourably considered in the report on the grounds of

cost-effectiveness.

The

preferred alignment, via Yuen Long, would be able to

accommodate cross-border

freight and passenger traffic as well as a commuter services.

The Railway Development Study

report has been released for public consultation in March.

The

District Boards are being

consulted. All views put forth in

the consultation exercise will be

considered.
