Abolition of appointed District Board
(DB)
membership
DB Chairmen may reiterate their opposition to the proposal to abolish appointed membership on the grounds that appointed members do have a valuable role to play in the DBS.
This is one of several proposals put forward in the Government's
constitutional package. With additional responsibilities to be taken up by DBS, and with the Legislative Council being fully elected in 1995, we found it
logical to put this forward for discussion. The proposal is not a
reflection of appointed members'
performance. They have done an extremely good job in the past ten years.
