MR GOODLAD'S VISIT TO HONG KONG 7-9 JANUARY 1993: BRIEFING

1. We have yet to receive a copy of a draft programme for this visit from Hong Kong. I am planning on the basis that we shall need to produce briefing for meetings with the

Governor, Francis Cornish, Hugh Davies and Legco members. If

any further briefing is required when the programme arrives I shall let people know.

2. As Mr Goodlad last visited Hong Kong a couple of months ago only minimal briefing will be required this time. Basically, he will only need to be brought up to date on

recent events. Briefing should therefore be in the form of checklists with background only being provided if absolutely necessary. Subjects that will need to be covered include the

airport, the civil service, British Chamber of

Commerce, nationality, HMOCS, Exco, JLG matters and anything else that you think is likely to come up.
