CHAPTER 8

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

a

Introduction

1 Some of the cost estimates given in this chapter are approximate and only intended to give a rough indication of the amount of money that would be involved. To obtain a more accurate costing, additional information, such as site surveys, water depths in areas under consideration and exact number and sizes of wrecks and shoals, would be required. Some of the Malacca Strait littoral States are in the process of assembling these data in the course of their planned improvements to the waterways under their jurisdiction but no figures were available to the Group. The estimates given hereunder should, therefore, be considered in the light of the above limitations. The figures for Indonesia were obtained from the feasibility study carried out by that country.
