Hong Kong SAR Re-entry Permit (HKSAR REP)

In June 1993, the "Easy Travel Scheme" has been extended to cover children aged between 11 and 17 who hold permanent identity cards or ordinary identity cards bearing the

symbol. As a result of implementing the "Easy Travel Scheme", only certain persons still require the HKREP for specific reasons. After 30 June 1997,

persons under similar circumstances will need a HKSAR travel document similar to the HKREP, the HKSAR REP.

PROPOSAL

The British side proposes:

(a) Eligibility:

As from 1 July 1997, the following persons should be eligible for the HKSAR REP:

Persons who are Chinese citizens and who have

right

of abode

or

are

unconditional stay in the HKSAR;

or

British

on

Holders of British Overseas citizen (BOC) passports, British subject (BS) passports

Protected person (BPP) passports, who are wholly or partly of Chinese race, who have right of abode or are on unconditional stay in the HKSAR, and who cannot obtain other national passports or travel documents of any other state or region; and

Stateless persons who have right of abode or are on unconditional stay in the HKSAR and who cannot obtain national passports or travel documents of any other state or region.

(b) Re-admission to the HKSAR:

No

restriction during the validity of the HKSAR REP.

(c) Validity: Five years.
