In accordance with the principle that the existing should be maintained as far as possible, the British

proposes that apart from necessary changes, the future should broadly replicate the existing types. We propose that as from 1 July 1997, there should be the following HKSAR passport and

travel documents:

HKSAR

(a) HKSAR passport;

(b)

a travel document similar to the HKCI (for easy reference, this will be referred as HKSAR CI);

(c)

a travel document similar to the HKDI (HKSAR DI);

document similar to the HKREP (HKSAR

seaman's document similar to the HKSIB (HKSAR

SIB).

HKSAR passport

8.

After 30 June 1997, most former HKBDTCS will have

right of abode in the HKSAR and hold permanent identity

cards of the HKSAR. Most of these will be regarded as

Chinese citizens and therefore eligible for the HKSAR

passport.

Similarly, after 30 June 1997, most former HKCI

holders will have right of abode in the HKSAR and hold

permanent identity cards of the HKSAR. Most of these will

be regarded as Chinese citizens and therefore eligible for the HKSAR passport.

After 30 June 1997, most former HKDI holders who

completed the 7-year residence requirement will have HKSAR and hold permanent identity
