DRAFT AGREEMENT BETWEEN HONG KONG AND THE UK CONCERNING MUTUAL LEGAL ASSISTANCE IN CRIMINAL MATTERS
1.
Thank you for your letters of 17 and 25 June to Mr Ricketts on the above subject, and for your comments on the draft text of the MLAT. We shall be replying to those comments separately.
2. We hope to hold meetings soon to discuss any concerns you and others may have on the draft text and to prepare our position in advance of the talks with the Hong Kong Government. At the moment we are not sure when those talks will be:
as the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group will now be meeting in London in December rather than September, it may be more convenient to hold them in early-to-mid December. We will get in touch again when the situation is clearer.
