I called in Shu Jianping of NCNA on 26 July. I said the Hong Kong Government welcomed the statement by the MFA spokesman on 22 July that the Chinese side would take back as soon as possible those Vietnamese refugees who had been resettled in China and that relevant Chinese authorities had taken measures to prevent the recent influx into Hong Kong of the Vietnamese refugees who said they had come from Beihei of Guangxi Province. However, the number of arrivals continued. New vessels were reaching Hong Kong every day.
