Thank you for your fax of 15.10.93.

We shall be putting the

amendments to the initialled HK/Sweden IPPA to the Chinese side soon (we have not done so because we are persuading the Swedes to drop their proposed amendment. to the Chinese text). We would not ask for positive indication of agreement from the Chinese side to the Sweden proposal but would assume Chinese agreement if they do not indicate objection. Therefore, we can hope to proceed to signature fairly soon.

When I wrote to you, the Swedes suggested signing the IPPA during their Minister's visit to Hong Kong in end October this year. Now, this seems highly unlikely to happen.

But our intention is still to proceed to signature as possible, perhaps during STI's visit to Europe early next year.
