Officials from the Intellectual Department have been participating for years as members of the UK delegation in the Meetings of the Committees of Experts organised by WIPO. It is an opportune time to consider increasing Hong Kong's participation in other WIPO fora.

In the run up to 1997, we are tasked to localise and modernise our intellectual property regimes.

Currently we have a number of major legislative projects in the pipeline. A Bill on the protection of integrated circuits layout-design rights has been introduced to the legislature. The recently released Patents Steering Committee Report recommends significant changes to the existing patent regime. Bill to implement the recommendations will be introduced to the legislature sometime next year. new Copyright Bill will be prepared after

of a copyright report by the Law Reform Commission towards the end of this year.
