After graduating from Lingnan University Graduate School, he taught at HKU for six years and then further his studies in the US. After getting his Ph.D, he worked at a research institute in New York for eight years. Then he returned to HK to teach at CUHK as a senior lecturer, and was promoted to professor later. Had been chairman of the preparatory committee of HK Region of the Asia-Pacific physics conference, honorary senior researcher of CUHK and visiting professor at Zhongshan University. His research mainly related to laser.

After graduating from the New Asia College in 1960s, he further his studies in the US and returned in 1971. In 1973, he started preparatory work for the establishment the International Affairs College and registered the college in 1977. It is the only private institute in HK that offers courses on international politics and diplomacy. The college also has an international relations research centre. He is senior political adviser of the Association for Democracy of HK, and a consultant of the Chinese Civil Servants' Association.
