According to TKP (15 Nov), following a decision by the
MAC on 4 November to allow employees of China funded enterprises
in Hong Kong to travel to Taiwan, a meeting of officials in Taipei agreed on further gradual steps to permit Hong Kong
members of the PRC National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference to travel to Taiwan.
The first such person to make such a visit is Liu Yiu-chu.

A report by the Chungshan Institute for Economic Research noted the important role in promoting PRC-Taiwan trade
played by PRC-funded banks in Hong Kong and recommended that the Hong Kong branches of Taiwan banks should co-operate with the
PRC-funded banks in checking clients' credit status and
evaluating investment projects (CNA 1 Nov).

The Hong Kong Press Management Association plans to
hold a conference with representatives from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan to discuss the role of the press in all three
places. It will take place at the Hong Kong Convention Centre
from 24-26 November. A Preparatory Committee for the study of the press on the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong has been
established with 3 Hong Kong members and one each from the
mainland and Taiwan. The Hong Kong members include Tsang Tak-sing of TKP and Yang Kam-kuen, Chairman of the Executive
Committee of the Hong Kong Press Management Association. A
press conference about the planned conference was attended by 3
other Executive Committee members, Yau Cheuk-lam, Li Kai-wun and
Cheng Ming-yan (TKP 15 Nov).
Taiwan/Hong Kong
24.
4 Hong Kong delegations will visit Taiwan to observe
the local elections there at the end of this month. One of the
delegations will be led by Ng Wai-cho of the UDHK and include 4
other UDHK members (UDNHK 15-16 Nov).
