1.

The following proposals were drawn up by a working party after consultation with customers and discussion within our Editorial department.

New Names for the Daily Documents

The names of the daily documents do not reflect accurately the contents or the material covered. Monitoring proposes that the names be changed as follows.

Part 1,

Former USSR (retaining the change of 12 months ago)

Part 2,

Central Europe and the Balkans

Part 3,

Asia

Pacific

Part 4,

Middle East

Part 5,

Africa and Latin America.

The case for Part Five

It is felt that there is a real need to divide the current Summary of World Broadcasts Part 4, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. At present, the range of material covered and the size of the area being tackled is too large and unwieldy and does not meet the interests of many of Monitoring's customers.

Monitoring sees this change as an initial attempt to make the regional division (the Parts) of the daily SWB more logical. As it goes over to more flexible publishing and printing systems (to be introduced from the beginning of 1994), it will be looking to further subdivide the daily SWB in line with the needs of its customers, in particular its official customers.

2. Internal structure of each SWB Part

Monitoring believes that the way the presentation of the material is structured in each of the daily publications should be uniform. It is proposing that all of the Parts follow the regional principle currently used in Part 4.
