Contion on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and Inte national Lakes which addresses the need for countries which border the many inland rivers, lakes and groundwates which either form boundaries between or lie across ECE member countries' territory, to take measures to prevent, control and reduce significant and adverse transboundary impact. The UK signed the Convention on 18 March 1992, but has yet to ratify. The Convention is essentially a European Convetion and has not been ratified on behalf of Dependent Territories.
Global Conference on the Development of Small Island Developing States to be held in Barbados in April 1994 to adopt plans and programmes to support the sustainable development of small island States, and measures to enable them to cope with environmental changes and reduce the threats posed to marine and coastal resources. A Preparatory Committee will hold an organisational session no later than April 1993 and a substantive session at the UN in August 1993.
