CALL ON MR GOODLAD BY WILLIAM COURTAULD, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JARDINE PACIFIC LIMITED: WEDNESDAY 31 MARCH (3.30 PM)

1.

I submit points to make and background for this call. Morris from this Department will attend to take the note.

Mr

2. I am not quite sure whether Mr Courtauld will want to pursue Jardines business or more general Hong Kong/China issues. He is active in the British Chamber of Commerce and was the author of a useful paper on its future: it would be worth enquiring how things are moving on that front. He may ask about Stephen Day: on which the Minister (subject to Mr Hum's views) could confirm that Mr Day is on sick leave and is not expected to resume his duties in Hong Kong.

3. On Jardines business more generally, I have recently had accounts from Sir C Powell and Mr Martin Barrow summarised in the background.
