re: HỒNG KONG The History

Many thanks indeed for returning my call today. As I promised this is a brief reminder of the purpose of the series that

Jonathan Dimbleby and I are making together.

The series is presently planned to be five one-hour documentaries chronicling the history of the colony, the saga of Sino-British relations over the century and a half, and the unfolding of these last five years through to handover. In rough terms we expect the balance of history with the present day to be about equal. The production is funded by BBC Television, with the initial broadcast planned for the middle of 1997.

The basis upon which we and the BBC are conducting all filming and interviews is a strictly confidential one. All conversations are kept strictly to ourselves, and NOTHING will be released before mid-1997.

We very much hope that you will be able to be available, as you suggested, either on the afternoon of 10th or the 11th of November. The interviews that we are conducting for this series are detailed explorations of historical fact, and as you were involved for quite some time in the region, we would probably want to spend a good two to three hours with you.

If you would like to know more or if we can answer any further questions that you might have, would you kindly contact Jonathan at the address above as I am leaving for Hong Kong shortly and shall be away until mid- October.

Would you let Jonathan's secretary Woppi Gander know which of the above dates suit, and where you would like us to come to interview you. (By the way, we don't arrive with an unruly mob of thousands, just four in all, including Jonathan and myself)
