The Governor and his Executive Council will take decisions on introducing legislation to LEGCO in the light of progress in
talks.
Press arrangements for talks
As the Chinese are hosts it is for them to make the necessary arrangements, including issuing visas. Fully understand your interest in covering the talks.
We were in touch with the Chinese Embassy here as well as the Chinese authorities in Peking last week, and expressed the hope that the Chinese would make the normal facilities available for
the talks.
We understand that applications from the press to cover the talks will be dealt with in the normal way by the Chinese authorities.
Will not, of course, be able to give you a blow by blow account
of the discussions.
AIRPORT
All agree that Hong Kong needs a new airport if it is to remain
an international trade and financial centre.
Have done our very best to take account of Chinese problems with financing arrangements.
Believe that agreement could be reached quickly if financing issues tackled on their merits.
In the meantime, we are maintaining momentum on the airport to avoid expensive cost increases and slippages.
