Dear Mr Lynch,

We received today your fax of today's date and the questions for the Foreign Secretary.

It seems that you may not have received Mr Cornish's letter to you of 19 January, in reply to your letter of 17 December to the Foreign Secretary. I enclose a copy for information. As you will see, the Foreign Secretary is unable to give you a face-to-face interview, as you had requested in your letter of 17 December.

As you can imagine, the Foreign Secretary will not be able to answer all 42 of your questions. We propose to amalgamate them into around 8 substantive questions. If you would prefer to send us around 8 substantive questions yourself we will happily pass them on.

You
