1. I attach a letter to Christopher Hum from Sir Richard Luce, Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.

As you will see he is seeking our aid in persuading Sir Run Run Shaw to agree to meet Sir Nigel Mobbs who will be visiting Hong Kong in mid-September.

Christopher asked me to ask if you had already met Sir Run Run Shaw, and if so would you be willing to approach him to feed in this request. (We think that it would not be right to approach him in this context unless you are already known to him). Failing that, we think we shall have to await the Governor's return, and see if he would be prepared to so recommend. Grateful if possible for an initial response if possible deskby 171000Z (a swift phone call would do) so that I can give Sir Richard an indication of where he stands.
