May I refer to your faxed letter of 17 August. we have drawn a blank with the Shaw Foundation. British Council, wrote to Mr Louis Page (note the change of gender!) on 23 August. He has now received the reply from Sir Run Run's secretary dated 27 August saying (a) that Sir Run Run will be out of Hong Kong during Sir Nigel Mobbs' visit and therefore unable to meet him; (b) that in any case the Shaw Foundation have heavy commitments in the coming years in China which will prevent its participation in the work of the University of Bunckingham.

2. I imagine that, in the circumstances, Sir Nigel Mobbs will wish to consider whether there are any other potential foundations or individuals to approach.

3. PS/Government House will be replying separately to FCO Tel No. 793. We have told them that Francis Cornish's diary would It in principle enable him to see Sir Nigel during his visit. seems to me essential that the future British Consulate-General should be well briefed about the affairs of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
