MEETING BETWEEN THE CHANCELLOR AND SIR WILLIAM PURVES: 21 OCTOBER 1993

I attach for ease of reference a copy of the minute by the Chancellor's Private Secretary reporting the above meeting. Mr Goodlad has focussed on paragraph 5 of this, which alleges Chinese discrimination against the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.

The Minister would be grateful for early advice on the allegations. He may decide thereafter to speak to Sir W Purves about this.
