There will be a balanced attendance from OECD countries and DNMEs. The informal, tripartite (government, private sector, academic) nature of the dialogue will be preserved and participants will attend in a personal capacity. The "tripartite formula" will be applied, as before, in a flexible manner, according to the specific needs of the various topics and parties involved, including, as appropriate, meetings involving officials only.
In order to avoid creating a heavy burden for the dialogue partners, the Secretariat should ensure an appropriate sequencing of the activities.
The participation of all DNMEs in the activities described above is expected and should be sought by the Secretariat. The activities will not necessarily require, however, the participation of all ten DNMEs in each and every activity.
Finally, in exploring avenues for future work, the Secretariat should bear in mind work done by other international and regional organisations and conferences, notably the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) and the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council (PECC).
Proposed Action
The Group is invited to adopt the following conclusion:
"THE GROUP
noted the Note by the Secretary-General on the topics and modalities for the next phase of the informal dialogue with the Dynamic Non-Member Economies [C/NM(93)61], and endorsed the proposals contained therein."
