OECD: THE ROLE OF HONG KONG IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GUANGDONG PROVINCE (1994 SHORT TERM STUDY)

1. We understand that the OECD Development Centre have been persuaded to replace their proposal for a short term study on quote China's future outlook and the Hong Kong Dollar unquote (our telno 284 Hong Kong, telno 477 and Peking telno 433 refer) with one on quote the role of Hong Kong in the development of Guangdong Province unquote. The object of the study will be to assess the extent to which cooperation between Hong Kong and Guangdong province has fostered a transformation in the economic and political institutions of a quote socialist market economy unquote and to assess the effect of these changes on economic growth. The findings will be published.
