THE OECD FUTURE STUDIES INFORMATION BASE
Effective response to the challenges of the coming decades requires decision makers, whether in government or in industry, to have quick and efficient access to up-to-date information on possible future developments. In particular, they need to be fully informed of relevant long-term trends and new driving forces, and to be quickly alerted to emerging issues likely to have a major bearing on the future environment in which they will have to operate.
The OECD Future Studies Information Base, a computerised system for the storage and retrieval of information on long-term future studies, is designed to meet this need. It is available to policy makers and policy analysts in OECD Member Countries, and to the OECD International Futures Network, a world-wide network of people in the public and private sector who share a common involvement in long-term issues.
The Information Base and the International Futures Network are elements of the OECD International Futures Programme. A third element, the OECD Forum for the Future, provides a platform for international conferences and workshops to advance the understanding of strategic issues.
