Secondly, Hong Kong is an important centre of international

finance, information and communication. For example there are 164

licensed banks in Hong Kong, of which 37 are Japanese owned. With

regards information, and communication, Hong Kong is equipped with

an extensive telecommunications system which recently became the

first in the world to become entirely digital.

Thirdly, Hong Kong is a place where the free market mecha-

nism flourishes, and with minimum government intervention, market

forces exist in free system unmatched anywhere else in the

world.

Fourthly, Hong Kong is a place where the rule of law is well

established, and the transparent market system has been well kept

under the adequate supervision of the clean government.

Fifthly, Hong Kong is situated on the doorstep to China.

With the deepening interdependence between Hong Kong and China,

Hong Kong has the accumulation of experience as well as the ideal

location to engage in economic activities with the mainland.
