COMMERCIAL STAFFING LEVELS IN CHINA. ARE WE UNDER- REPRESENTED?
The government recognises the difficulties companies face in the China market and has allocated substantial resources to supporting British companies entering the market.
The British Embassy in Peking has a strong Commercial Section (a Commercial Counsellor plus six Commercial Officers).
The Consulate-General in Shanghai is wholly commercial.
In Hong Kong,
alongside the BTC, there is the China Trade Unit which covers the eight southern provinces. Despite heavy pressures on resources we should very much like to improve and increase our coverage of the booming South China market and are currently investigating the most effective way of doing this.
In addition to official British representation, the China Britain Trade Group has offices available for the use of UK exporters in Peking, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongging, Chengdu and Shenyang. The CBTG also has plans to open an office in Canton.
